Make a home media hub

Share a folder from your computer over HTTP or FTP and browse it in OpenHub as a drive — your whole library, streaming on your own network. No cloud, no account.

How to set it up

  1. Pick a folder

Choose any folder of movies, music or photos on your Mac or PC.

  2. Share it on your network

Serve it over HTTP or FTP. The easy way is OpenHub Server — a free menu-bar app that does it in one click, with an optional password.

  3. Get the local address

It shows a link like http://192.168.1.20:8080 or ftp://192.168.1.20 — reachable only on your own Wi-Fi.

  4. Add it in OpenHub

On your device: Add Folder → FTP, or paste the HTTP link. Enter the address and any password.

  5. Browse & stream

Your library shows up as a drive — play videos, open photos and documents. Files never leave your network.

Two ways to share

HTTP
Simplest to start — read-only sharing that just works. Great for streaming a folder of videos to any device.
FTP
Best for big libraries — full folder browsing with an optional login. Handles deep folder trees smoothly.

Why you’ll like it

Safe & local

Nothing touches the cloud. Files stay on your device, reachable only on your own network.

Fast

Streams at full local-network speed — no uploads, no buffering from a far-away server.

Simple

No account, no setup. Pick a folder, press start, add it in OpenHub.
